Skills Training

Located at 114 Wright Crescent in Kingston, the Skills Training Area offers basic skills training in the activities of daily living, communication, socialization, environmental awareness, and physical education. Training to improve skills is provided both individually and in small groups. Activities emphasize community integration and accessing generic services.

Eligibility: Open to adults with severe developmental disabilities including individuals with a dual diagnosis (developmental disability accompanied by a psychiatric disorder). Clients should be interested in pursuing a non-vocational goal.

Referrals: Accepted from all sources including families, self, other agencies and advocates. Referrals from within Ongwanada are made through the Individual Support Plan.

Hours: Weekdays, 8 a..m. to 4 p.m.

Waiting period: The program has space for thirty-five clients. Because of the demand for this service, potential clients are encouraged to place their name on a waiting list while still attending school and before reaching the age of 18. The status of individual referrals can be obtained from Karen Menzies -Turner, Coordinator, Vocational and Community Services.
