POSITION: 

Perform various accounting and financial administration duties such as account reconciliations and monitoring, providing analysis and support to the Manager of Financial Services in the preparation of financial statements and reports, and other external reporting requirements. Track, monitor and analyze the departmental financial statements, account reconciliations, prepare journal entries while adhering to policies and procedures; conduct internal departmental audits; budget planning, month ends, SOPs, and support special projects as assigned. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide financial support to the Manager of Financial Services, including prepare account analyses, variance analysis and ad-hoc reports as required
  • Perform financial and accounting duties, including processing financial transactions and departmental journal entries, inclusive of background research, supporting documentation and ensuring accuracy
  • Develop custom reports, standard reports and complex queries for the unit for decision-making purposes;
  • Support year-end procedures by producing working papers, analyses and reports for the Manager of Financial Services
  • Respond to inquiries and requests received in person, by email, or by phone and provide accurate information in a timely manner
  • Maintain organized electronic and hard copy financial files for the unit, and adhere to internal audit policies

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:  

  • Post-secondary education in an accounting program;
  • Work experience in an accounting role within an organization, preferably a non-profit organization;
  • Knowledge of the full accounting cycle and the principles of accounting practices and procedures;
  • Strong analytical, interpretive, and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to show initiative, take ownership, and work effectively on diverse and complex issues under time constraints;
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently but at the same time work effectively within a team environment;
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word and Excel;
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are crucial;
  • Satisfactory criminal check with vulnerable sector check required
