Wage: Hourly: $27.313, $27.601, $27.877
Annual: $53,260.90 $53,821.43 $54,351.83
POSITION: To perform a variety of mechanical and other maintenance tasks efficiently; and to perform a variety of fire safety duties as well.
Safety is a priority of Ongwanada. Staff are responsible for maintaining their competencies, promoting safety and are accountable for effective person-served care. Employees are expected to follow all safe working practices established by Ongwanada for the protection of the health and safety of all workers, persons-served and visitors and to identify and report actual or potentially unsafe situations.
DUTIES:
Performs maintenance duties such as: (50%)
- Trouble shooting and/or repairing heating/cooling systems;
- Repairing commercial kitchen equipment;
- Repairing/servicing/installing household appliances;
- Maintaining and documenting equipment on a preventative maintenance schedule (as per regulatory guidelines);
- Maintaining pool operations (water balance).
Performs fire safety duties such as: (40%)
- Inspect and test fire alarm systems/smoke detectors/carbon monoxide detectors in accordance with the Ontario Fire Code;
- Inspect and test fire suppression systems in accordance with the Ontario Fire Code;
- Replace smoke detector batteries once per year and as required;
- Inspect and test emergency lighting in accordance with the Ontario Fire Code;
- Provide follow-up with all fire alarm related issues and if required, to liaise with the fire alarm contractor for service;
- Maintain all applicable fire safety log books by documenting all inspections and testing;
- Liaise with all applicable fire departments in conjunction with Ongwanada’s Safety Coordinator;
- Conduct fire drills as per established schedule;
- Prepare and conduct fire safety training sessions in conjunction with Ongwanada’s Safety Co-ordinator;
- Inspect and test emergency back-up power systems as per established schedule;
- Other fire safety duties as required.
Performs other related duties including: (10%)
- Acquiring and maintaining appropriate working knowledge of all equipment and controls and chemicals;
- Completing reports/logs accurately;
- As assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- A technical education with supporting certificates/courses including domestic refrigeration, HVAC operation, appliance repairs and boiler operations are required;
- A working knowledge of air handling units (including Johnson Controls DSC 8500), pneumatic controls, pool operations, appliance repair, emergency generators, fire alarm systems, mechanical lifts and an ability to understand and demonstrate competence with mechanical systems, plans, diagrams and blueprints is required;
- Ability to perform a variety of maintenance tasks, employing hand tools and power equipment with minimal supervision is required;
- Must possess and maintain a valid G Driving License with full driving privileges;
- Knowledge of Ontario Building and Fire Codes and Ministry of Environment Safe Drinking Water regulations is an asset;
- Ability to prepare and present staff education sessions is an asset;
- Ability to maintain logbooks and written preventative maintenance documents clearly
