POSITION:
Manage all aspects of a comprehensive human resources department, including employee recruitment and retention, Labour relations, health and safety, remuneration and benefits, and scheduling. Where appropriate assist line management in the maximization of human resources.
Safety is a priority of Ongwanada. Staff are responsible for maintaining their competencies, promoting safety and are accountable for effective person-served care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain positive relationship with local union officers and officials.
- Assist line managers with union contract interpretation and advise on labour issues, including disciplinary issues, attendance management, scheduling issues etc.
- Participate on Union contract negotiating committees providing appropriate advice and counsel regarding proposals.
- Identify and flag potential labour relations problems and recommend corrective action.
- Oversee, and as appropriate advise and guide activities of HR Generalists, HR Specialist, Occupational Health Nurse, Safety Coordinator and Scheduling Supervisor.
- Review and revise organizational HR policies, ensuring their accuracy and currency
- Remain current with legislative changes, changes in HR practice etc. as appropriate
- Lead internal employee misconduct/harassment/abuse investigations
- Provide HR counsel/advise/recommendations to department supervisors/managers as requested
- Lead individual employee attendance awareness program meetings (Step 3 and 4)

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Diploma/degree in the Human Resources field from a recognized college or university or acceptable equivalent education, training and experience
- Minimum five years’ experience in Human Resources, preferably in labour-relations, in a unionized environment
- Superior oral and written communication/presentation skills
- Analytical and problem solving skills;
- Ability to function under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to relate effectively to departmental supervisors/managers and employees
