POSITION:
To provide a comprehensive, timely and accurate payroll service and accounting assistance under the direction of the Supervisor-Payroll Services. Utilizing computer software in accordance with the appropriate collective agreements and memorandums of understanding; extracts payroll related statistical reports.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Preparing changes to employee data for submission to Payroll Data Bureau;
- Maintaining current knowledge regarding the operation, maintenance and procedures for the Medipay payroll system, StaffRight time keeping system and StaffPay time/payroll interface program;
- Processing, transmitting, receipt and distribution of biweekly payroll, as assigned;
- Processing authorized employee requests for payroll deductions;
- Responding to, and resolving, employee and Supervisor’s inquiries on Payroll related issues;
- Recalculate pay and create manual cheques as assigned;
- Verifies receipt of signed Unit Pay Details and data entry of changes (time keeping) at pay end;
- Receives notices of staff leave requests and updates on StaffRight time keeping database;
- Assisting with calculations for HOOPP for terminations, retirements and Maternity Leaves;
- Reconciles amounts in order to preparing payroll related cheque requests and remittance documentation;
- Processing government garnishments as required;
- Maintaining and creating lists and forms as assigned to ensure proper payroll process;
- Maintaining confidential employee files of entitlement, banking, leaves, address and other payroll related information;
- Assisting with calculating and preparing retroactive payments of contract settlements when required;
- Assisting with preparing and processing year end reconciliations for all government agencies.
- Tracks annual leave allowances and notifies supervisors when time exhausted; completes follow-up of outstanding compassionate leave approval forms;
- Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Possess post-secondary education including enrollment or completion of Level I of the C.P.A. certification program;
- Experience working with a computerized payroll system, preferably MediSolution, would be a definite asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and Word Perfect is required;
- Working knowledge of collective agreements and related memorandums of agreements in respect to payroll related items an asset;
- Ability to maintain confidential information and to work under time constraints and deadlines;
- Good oral, written, analytical and statistical skills are required to carry out day to day routine payroll assignments;
- Incumbent should have strong attention to detail and accuracy and must be able to meet deadlines;
- Experience working in a hospital setting would be an asset.
