Position: Temporary Full Time Physiotherapist
Location: Ongwanada Resource Center
Dates of Vacancy: 12 month duration(flexible start date)
Hours of Work: 72.5 hours per pay
Wage: Hourly: Start – $44.03 – $46.14
Yearly: Start – $82,999 – $86,970
POSITION:
To provide physiotherapy for clients of Ongwanada.
DUTIES:
Performs Physiotherapy duties by: (80%)
• Provide assessment, treatment and consultation for persons served with a variety of neurological & orthopedic conditions; Provide instruction/education to persons served and caregivers regarding prescribed exercise, positioning or equipment; Provide hydrotherapy assessment/treatment to individuals and education/support to hydrotherapy pool staff; Work collaboratively with all members of the care team including OT, RN, Social Worker, Psychology, Pharmacy, Dietary and front line care giving staff; Prescribe adapted equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, lifts and slings.
Performs auxiliary duties such as: (15%)
• Supervise Queen’s physiotherapy or other students; Deliver in-services on body mechanics, injury prevention or other relevant topics for staff, volunteers and caregivers; Provide environmental assessments regarding accessible housing; provide staff training in the application of prescribed mechanical restraints and monitor as required.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Physiotherapy;
• The applicant should be: resourceful, independent/self-reliant, adaptable, able to work within a team setting, a good communicator and listener, with excellent problem solving skills, and sensitivity to the needs of developmentally challenged individuals;
• Must possess a valid G Driving License with full driving privileges, insurances and have access to own vehicle for travelling to community residences, Home Share locations and day program areas;
• Must successfully complete and maintain certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention as per Ongwanada policies;
• Basic understanding is required in the areas of:
• neuro-developmental therapy and Bobath based therapy techniques especially regarding tone, handling, positioning;
• hydrotherapy: must be able to swim and willing to go in a heated therapeutic pool 1 to 2 times per day;
• wheelchair fitting and adaptations as well as other mobility devices;
• adapted equipment (standing frames and other positioning devices);
• mechanical lifts and their use;
• environmental designs for persons with disabilities;
• splinting;
• health issues regarding aging;
• balance and gait assessment.
