ONGWANADA

Nursing

Nursing services are available to all people supported in Residential and Host Family to promote health, provide education, and to monitor health status.

Nurses are active members of each person’s support team and act as liaisons between the person supported and family physicians. They also accompany people to specialist appointments and ensure recommendations are followed.

Nursing is provided in two streams:

Nursing Community Residences

Two of Ongwanada’s community residences are dedicated to people with a developmental disability who require nursing supports for complex health issues. These homes are staffed by registered practical nurses 24 hours a day.

Clinical Community Nurses

All people living in non-nursing residential homes and Host Family homes have access to a clinical community nurse. These nurses act as case managers, linking professional supports and medical services. They regularly visit the person’s home and monitor health issues.
