Position: Permanent Casual Vocational & Life Skills Instructors 
Location: Crescent Centre/Skills Training Area
Hours of Work: No Minimum Guarantee-Call in hours for Mon-Fri 8am-4pm only
Wage: Hourly:  Start – $26.92    6 Months – $27.46     1 Year- $27.89

POSITION:   The Vocational and Life Skills Instructor is responsible for the day to day development and implementation of vocational, non-vocational or basic life skills programs and the support and monitoring of physically and developmentally challenged clients involved with Community Services.

DUTIES:

  • Assessing/making recommendations to the suitability for vocational/non-vocational/life skills program placement by interviewing persons served to determine education, work experience, specific skills, interests, strengths and barriers;
  • Assisting in designing Behaviour Support Plans and developing and implementing program curriculum and activity objectives for caseloads and providing assessments for Support Plans;
  • Facilitating training of non-vocational, vocational, social, and life skills necessary for vocational/non-vocational advancement in community placements;
  • Monitoring the progress of persons served during vocational/non-vocational training placements, providing vocational/non-vocational training and support, dealing with problems of attendance, performance, behaviour which could include crisis intervention;
  • Perform other general duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Graduate of a Community College or University in a related field, i.e. Developmental Service Worker (DSW), Behavioral Science Technologist (BST.), BA Psychology, Registered Nurse
  • Current certificates in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training
  • Successful completion of an Ongwanada recognized pharmacology course
  • A valid class G driving license with full driving privilege, and successful completion of an Ongwanada recognized Defensive Driving Course
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, good oral and written communication skills combined with sound judgment
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job
