Crescent Centre prides itself on all of the volunteer work that we do in order to give back to our local community.

Some of the highlights of our volunteer work includes our partnership with VON in which we volunteer to drive two Meals on Wheels routes in Kingston-this program has allowed us form new friendships with others in our community who may not be able to get out as much as others. We recently received a certificate of recognition from VON for our efforts as well as a letter of thanks from Mark Gerretsen, MP for Kingston and the Islands for our volunteer work with VON.

Another initiative that showcases our volunteer work is through Crescent’s New Beginnings Furniture program. This program takes old pieces of furniture and upcycles them into restored works of art. This program asks for donations for each piece of furniture, which in turn is put towards assembling care packages for our community partners that help with vulnerable members in our community, such as Loving Hands and the Integrated Care Hub. This program was also the recipient of a $5,000 grant from the Kinsmen Club of Kingston which allowed us to produce almost 200 individual care packages based on items that were identified as needs from our community partners. From this initiative, a new group at Crescent has been developed, called the Crescent Kindness Crew, which is a group that will be working year round to volunteer in our community in many different capacities.

Our gardening group at Crescent also recently developed a partnership with Extend-A-Family Kingston in which we help harvest hundreds of heads of lettuce from their state of the art hydroponic gardens in order to help provide fresh produce to many in our community who may not be in a financial position to purchase healthy and otherwise expensive food products, such as lettuce.

These are three larger examples of many hours and different roles that the people who access services and supports at Crescent provide through their volunteer work not only at Crescent, but throughout our local community. Volunteering to give back to community is an identified passion and goal of the people at Crescent, and we are so very proud of the work that they do.
