Over the past year and a half, our organization has been working with various individuals and Indigenous language experts to understand the meaning of Ongwanada. Initially, the organization believed that the word was Ojibwa; however, we have since learned it is of Mohawk origin.

We acknowledge that for so long, we have misunderstood and misrepresented the meaning of the word, and it is with deep humility that we thank the individuals involved in helping us to learn Indigenous history, culture, and related contemporary issues. We are eager to continue to educate members of our organization and better understand the history behind our name.
