re: Vaccines and family visits

Dear Ongwanada family members,

I am pleased to inform you that, working closely with our Public Health Unit, we have secured additional Pfizer BioNTech vaccine to provide accelerated second doses for many individuals supported by Ongwanada and other developmental agencies in the Southeast Ontario region.

Fourteen days after second dose, people are considered to have full immunity for COVID 19 meaning, at that point, some of the restrictions currently in place can be relaxed. However, some restrictions will remain in place; essential visitors can meet indoors but will still need to wear a mask and maintain physical distance from staff and other residents. Non-essential visitors can meet outdoors; hugs are permitted but masks must be worn – visits must be booked in advance in order to keep visitor numbers low. Day absences are permitted with no isolation required upon return. Overnight visits are still not permitted at this stage.

Families are encouraged to contact the home supervisor to establish if their loved one is considered to have full immunity (14 days post second vaccine dose).
